I lost a ring once. It sucked. I felt like all the life had drained out of me and that I would never be whole again until it was returned to me. And that was without magic. I can only imagine poor Sauron's predicament he found himself in, wallowing in anguish and sorrow, knowing that his precious ring was out there somewhere.
Next time, take the jeweler's advice and get insurance on that thing.
